Long Year

Been through alot this year but it has been still fun. The girls are growing fast. Ruth is in pre-school at Kingsway four days a week and Leah is in 5th grade at Pleasant Valley. I have one more month on Paranorman and then animation is all done. Hopefully then I can have some time off and we can have a little vacation. We all need it.

6th day, a day away

Waking up to my two favorite girls next to me, cuddled up in the back of a mini van makes for a good morning. The van floor was crooked, and I had a bolt in my back all night, but the girls made it all worth while. We went to breakfast at the pig in blanket, and then off to the Oregon coast Aquarium. It was amazing, the girls had a blast looking at all the exotic fish living just out in our shore. After a few hours exploring there we hopped into the van and drove up to tillamook to visit the cheese factory. Although the factory tour was kinda lame the ice cream was amazing!! So good! Then driving back home we drove past my work and painted new foursquare lines. We had fun getting all messy. After the long journey the girls still had some energy to burn so we rode bikes to the park. Great adventurous day!

Fifth day and farthest traveled

This morning marked the beginning of what is our most adventurous so far. It started with a drive to enterprise rent a car. We rented a mini van and made our way to mcminnville Oregon to the evergreen space and air museum. They built a new water park there and I have been wanting to take the kids there. They loved it. Then we journeyed on to Newport Oregon where we camped out at Beverly beach. Good day.

Fourth, the day after the fourth.

All the girls slept good through the night in the tent. They were so tired, the fireworks didn't even keep em up. Very surprising. We the afternoon with cousins and hiked around round lake in camas. Got ice cream. Later I took my girls to see cars 2. It looked amazing and the story was pretty good. The girls loved it. Good day.

Today was an early day of adventure. Christie picked us up and went down to the ridgefield parade. The kids enjoyed all the free candy. There were so many people jammed into that little town. Later we went to my parents for a family bbq. Christie did some amazing face painting on everyone. That night Christie and her girls joined me and mine at our house for a campout. We set up a tent and made a fire in the backyard. After dark we got up on the roof and watched the crazy fourth of July fireworks. They were amazing this year. The neighbours didn't let us down. We watched the grand finale as we ate smores. Another fun day.

Second day of vacation

Well today was a fun day, one I wouldn't have planned. Both cars are not working so we were left to biking everywhere. We rode to church, then out to lunch after, followed by a stop at the park, then home. Devan and his sister shelby came over and the kids all played in the pool. The water was warmer, but the sun wasn't as hot. Later we rode down to the park nearest us. Ruth used her cutness powers to gain control of two teenage girls. They played tag and other games. It was quite cute. We then rode around the neighbourhood and watched others light off their fireworks as the sun set. At home the kids and I sat on the roof of the house and ate popcorn and watched fireworks. It was a cool day.

First day off

I have the fourth of July week off with the girls and they are ready for adventure. I told em that Saturday would be a work day, but we got a pool for them to play in. It was way bigger then I intended to get. 12 feet across! Took 5 hours to set up and fill with water! But the girls played in it the hole time. A lot of neighbour kids came over and played. It was a nice day. :)

When attending our cousins church we saw this large abandoned slide laying sadly behind the sanctuary. After some asking around we brought home this 250 lb beast. It's fun and something that our playhouse has needed for quite some time.

The girls and I have been working over the past few weekends to expand thier playhouse. We added a 3x6 foot deck with collapsible table, a new ladder, chain railing, and a sliding pole. Leah painted the rest of the playhouse purple too. So now when the cousins come over there is alot more space for all the girls.

Leah had a great birthday week. We had cake and presents at home on her birthday and a family get together later in the week. But on the weekend she had three of her friends over for a slumber party. They played at kids club, ate tons of pizza, watched movies, had a fashion show, danced in Jessica's studio, and stayed up late talking. The had lots of fun.

Jessica's Dance Studio

For Jessica's birthday this year, I sent her away to a hotel. Then my Dad and I spent about 8 hours remodeling our storage shed into a dance studio. It has insulation, new laminate flooring, electricity, 6 x 7 foot mirror, internet (well that is still in progress, dumb wifi), heater. So now she can perfect her skills in private without kids (and a husband) staring.

Oh Ruth. You sweet little...booger. Ruth has created this little game for herself, which she thinks is quite funny. Jessica's car has automatic locks, but we lost the remote. So you have to use a key to get in the driver door then hit the button to unlock all the other doors. Well Ruth, for several months now, ihas been big enough to reach the lock on her door. So when we go to the store and I move to get her out of the car she quickly kicks the lock and I have to walk back to my door and unlock all the doors. Though her orneriness (I don't know where she gets it) keeps her going and she quickly locks the door. My humor turns to frustration and I have to reach in through my door and hit the lock where my hand is bombarded by kicking feet. I have to move swiftly to unlock the door amidst flying size 2s and get the door open. She giggles but has a very serious look on her face. Anyway, she loves this little battle we have. I don't know if she does the same for Jessica or if she saves this little game just for her dad.

Sick and Tired

Well we are on our third day of our family vacation. And like a vacation, we are getting a break from work, school, responsibilities and good health. OK so we are all home sick. And though it is not a vacation we are getting those breaks.

Tuesday, Ruth started getting sick. Then Jessica and Leah on wednesday and me on thursday. Fevers, sore throats, tender skin and achy muscles. All so much fun. So the house is a wreck and the TV has received excessive use. But come end of this weekend we should all be OK to return to our normal lives. And bid a farewell to this awful vacation.

Idaho

This last weekend Christie and I took the girls (Leah, Ruth, Noel and Sydney) to Idaho for Grandma Longs 80th birthday party. We left Friday afternoon and trekked the 6 hours to Nampa.

It was a nice weekend. The party was fun and everyone was there (minus Gerry). The girls had fun playing with cousins and we had a good time catching up with the family we dont get to see very often.

On sunday morning We took the girls to Raging Rapids, Idahos huge water park. Ruth stayed with Charlie because she was not feeling very good. But Christie, Noel Sydney, Leah, and I enjoyed a few hours of Idaho sun and Fun.

We headed back Sunday night. I was a fun, busy weekend. That will take a few days to recover from.

Saint Helens

On Monday (Aug 24 09) Adam and I hiked to the top of Mount Saint Helens. It was a lot of fun, but quiet challenging. I have been walking with the girls several times a week this summer to try and get ready for the trek, but this hike kicked me in the tail. It took us five hours to hike the five miles and 5000 feet of elevation, and 3 hours to come down. It was an amazing day, clear and warm. Awesome. One mountain down man more to go. We participated in our first race today. It was a 3k for race for
courage. It was to raise money for the guy at work whose son died of
cancer last month and whose wife is going through it as well. There
were four hundred participents. It was fun.

Leah is ready for school. We got ALL her school supplies early this
year. Phew! And we were able to find a backpack that wasn't a hundred
pounds. Last year we went late and found a few left over supplies. She
is so excited to get back to school and in the third grade!

Ruth is being very cute right now. She came back from my parents and they borrowed our car seat. The car seat was in the living room floor. She had to sit in it and be buckled. She whined so I tried to unbuckle her but she squealed so I left her buckled. Now she is requesting her blanky, binky, and stuffie. So now her and I are watching food network. Me on the couch and her cuddling her bedtime gear , buckled in her car seat. Too cute.

The Fair

The Girls and I went to the fair this last weekend with Christie and her kids. It was a fun day of rides, food and screaming. Screaming? Yes, terror, horror and even some blood. After standing in line for half an hour to enter the fair, we thought we would go see some animals before the rides were open. There was this exotic animal exhibit in on of the buildings,. I had a back entrance near us that led us down a 30 foot dark corridor to the wonder of lions, snakes and even sharks. We were excited, but only made a few steps in. Ruth and I headed first down the door when we heard screaming. We turned around Leah, Noel and Sydney were screaming, panic in their eyes as they tore their way through the exit. When I made it our Leah was scraped and bruised, Noel stood searching for a safe haven in the open fair and Sydeny was held deep in Christies arms. An over inthusiastic fair worker rushed over and they explained to him and to me that when they entered the dark hall a Goblin of shear terrror peaked his head out of a neighboring haunted house exit and stared at the girls. After several calls, visits with TWO fair directors, a trip to first aid, and two free ride passes (est value: $60) The fair people finally released us to enjoy the rest of the day. I mean released, they did not want us to leave upset and I assume, ready to sue. But the rides opened and the horror was soon forgotten. The girls, however, would have no discussion of taking another look in the dark room. Wild animals or not. That dark creature of the night would be no doubt lurking in the shadows. Awaiting a nice little morsel, at least that is what was written in the eyes of these three girls.

Summer Fun

We have been enjoying the summer heat for the last month. The girls love the water. Well Ruth does as long ad it doesn't touch her face or head. But Leah just dives on in and does come out until dragged. We have been going for walks almost every day. Leah rides her bike and becoming much more comfortable on it. Ruth sits in the jogging stroller and talks the entire time, pointing out every thing she sees. She has a blast. The girls are also having fun with the new kitten, prince. Ruth is learing to be nice a gentle to the kitten and Leah is learning the responsibility of having a kitten, like changing the litter box and feeding him. I thinks Ruth loves having her big sister home during the summer to. She is gonna have a hard time when Leah goes back to school in the 'third grade'! There is plenty of summer left and we are looking foreword to camping, more swimming and maybe a trip to Idaho.

Well the girls are down in California with Jessicas parents. We met them in Roseburg last thursday and handed them over for eleven days. The church down in sacramento has a vacation bible school that Leah has been going to for the last few years. This is the first time we have had Ruth this far away for this long. It will be nice to relax and get things done around the house.

Back from Paradise

Well we returned last weekend from California. We stayed with Jessica's parents out side sacramento where it was 102 degrees. Jessica's sister's wedding was at the house and it was beautiful. Then we left the kids and headed to our paradise on the central coast. We lived in los osos a few times and we love to return. We had also wished we could have afforded to stay, but it is not a place that is easy to be freelance.

Well, we are heading down to California tomorrow. Jessica's sister Kristin is getting married. The girls are very excited. Well Leah is, Ruth just knows she is getting ignored as we get everything ready. We are going to be down there for a week. The wedding is at Jessica's Dad's house in Plymouth, about 40 miles outside Sacramento. He built a big house, but it is on 50 acres that has no public power or water, so I am excited to see his setup. We have seen pictures but only Leah has been to the house. It is gloomy here in the NW and should be 90 degrees down there, so that will be exciting. Bring on the shorts, white legs!

Leah Fishing

Leah is on spring break this week and is having fun. I came home for lunch and took her and Ruth out to lunch. It was fun. Monday my Dad and Mom took the girls fishing. They all caught fish! Leah was so proud that she caught the biggest fish. You can also see her sporting her new glasses. She also has to wear an eye patch a few hours everyday at night to help her from getting a lazy eye. It irritates her, but Jessica and I making pirate references irritates her even more. So we are going to stop that. Anyway, she is going to stay at Grandma and Grandpa Copas's tonight and she is excited. Oh and the fish wasnt really THAT big. But I wanted to tell a good fishing story on this april fools day. But the fish was big, so they say.

Lately.

Well not much going on lately. I had worked some overtime on a new commercial campaign for Spam. Kinda fun claymation that should be out this june. So anyway, I was able to take a friday off. Jessica and I spent the weekend taking everything out of our bedroom, paint the walls and tear out the carpet. We new we had hardwood floors under the carpet but had no idea how they were going to look. Well they were not bad. There is a dark stain in one part, but a rug can cover that until we are ready to redo the floors. But it was nice to do something on the house and made the room look really nice. Leah was irritated cause all the stuff in our room was shoved into hers. She had enough room to walk from the door to here bed, but barely. Ruth had to be patient while Jessica and I worked. She was pretty good and watched alot of cartoons. Mostly she stould by the gate at our bedroom door and whined. But she was a good girl. Leah has spring break next week and she is excited. We dont have any plans. We are all looking foreword to warmer weather so we can enjoy more time outside when it isnt 40 degrees and windy. Anyway, there you go.

Well Coraline came out this last weekend and did pretty well. Jessica and I were able to go to the world premiere here in Portland. They had a big tado with all the stars and all. It was alot of fun. The movie made 16.3 million dollars on its opening weekend. Not as much as a Pixar movie, but good for our first. Just thought I would throw up a picture of some of the swag we got from the film.

Thought we should put up some updated pictures of Rosie. We have to take her in and have surgery on her eyes. She was born with too much skin on her eyelids and the lashes are tucked inside againsts the eyeballs. She didnt grow into them as we had hoped. But the doctor says it is an easy procedure.

Christmas

We had a fun Christmas this year. I was able to take the week off from work. Even though the studio was closed anyway from the 12 inches of snow. We had fun playing in the snow. It took Ruth quite awhile to get used to this mysterious new substance on the ground. But once we let her take a few rides on the sled she was hooked. We went to My parents for Christmas eve with been and Christie and all the girls and then on Christmas day Jessica's Dad came up from California and surprised the girls. We had a hard time keeping that a secret. We weren't sure he was going to be able to come because of all the snow. It has been a fun week. Enjoy the photos and videos.

Leah and her classmates performed their yearly Christmas performance. She was 'truly' the star. She has changed in the last year and instead of crying and fleeing the stage, she seems to come alive and really enjoy performing. Which makes me excited. Every filmmaker needs a steady actor on call. Hee hee.

Here are the Girls decorating the tree. Well, Leah did most of the decorating. Ruth hung a couple but mostly just put the ornaments in her mouth. But it was fun. We had to put the tree in the kitchen to keep out of reach of Ruth and her curious hands. Rosie saw the tree through the sliding glass door and growled viciously. It is good to know we have a protector. Even though one day I snuck up on her and she growled, well she growled as she ran as fast as she could accross the lawn until she saw it was me. Oh well. The intent was there.

His two year old son has a brain tumor and they are in the battles of dealing with it. He has had two surgeries in the last few weeks and now they are going to ST. Judes in Tennessee next week. He is a christian and he and his wife would like all the prayer they can. Oh bythe way, his wife is in remition from cancer this last summer. Please check out the site they made for thier son. Thanksgiving / Birthday Weekend

This last weekend was fun. We had thanksgiving at Jessica's parents on Friday. Her brother was coming down with his girls and his fiance', but they were not able to come down till friday so Jessica, the girls and I had a thanksgiving day dinner at Burgerking and Carls Jr. It was delicious. Then on friday we headed out to Ron and Pams for the turkey dinner. We met Troy's (Jessica's brother) fiance' Ali, and his girls played with ours. It was a nice relaxing time.

Saturday was my birthday and we just hung out around the house and relaxed which was nice. Sunday I went out with Eric and JJ for lunch and a game of Golf in the fog. We could see our balls for about a hundred yards and then they disappeared. It made for some interesting challenges. Then Eric and I dropped JJ off and had Dinner with Garret. It was an awsome day. Oh and leah and I went and saw the Disney movie Bolt on saturday. That was a really good movie. We saw it at Cinetopia in 3D. That was a good experience. Watching movies in 3D adds alot to the experience. We also were able to see the Coraline trailer in 3D. I had animated two shots that were in the trailer. That was really cool, especially since Leah was there and was able to see my animation on the Big screen. Coraline is really scary for young kids and I dont think we will be taking her to the movie until she is older. :(

The girls have been having alot of fun lately. Leah is having fun this year in second grade. She is riding the bus to and from school and loves the extra time with her friends. Her second grade class is in a portable outside, she loves it. Even though she wont admit it, I think she loves it because she is the first of the kids to get out to recess. Even her desk is next to the door. She is working on her reading and is having fun. Ruth is a wild child. She is busy and has lots of energy. She loves to crawl on everthing. We have to keep her from jumping off the couch. I have had to catch her by the heal as she plunges to her doom. We let her flop off the couch onto the cushions once and now she wont stop, even when there is no padding. Whoops on us. She is also having fun charging into us (unexpectedly) head first. He has some power in her. She is having fun learning animal names and sounds. We will have more videos and photos to show later.

Our new puppy Rosie. She was Leah's Christmas
present from Us. Rosie is two months old, and she
is a Lab/Mastiff/Boxer. So she me get very big.
Ruth is a bit scared of her but is getting more used to her.
